The Haitian government has regulations adoptive families must meet, although often times there is flexibility in the law.

• Parents should be at least 30 years old. (If married, one must be 30, the other at least 28.) 
  • Exception: Medical proof that the ability to have children is not possible or feasible.
• If you are married, you should be married for a minimum of 5 years prior to your file being submitted to IBESR. (OR married for 3 years with proof of being together at least 2 years prior.)
• Divorced parents permitted to adopt.
• Single women permitted to adopt.
  
• You are not allowed to have more than 4 biological children.
  • Presidential approval can be requested.
    
• The I-600 application must be filed by the adoptive parent(s), in person, in Haiti.
